Lots may be viewed at our Hendon premises at any time during normal opening (Mon-Fri, 9.00 to 5.00), and also BY APPOINTMENT ONLY during the two weekends leading up to the closing time. Please telephone in advance to ensure that your journey is not wasted!

There are NO ADDITIONAL CHARGES TO BIDDERS for buyer's premium, V.A.T., etc. (but 3% premium for payment by credit card). Telephone enquiries regarding results cannot be answered until 3 days after sale.

NEW YEAR, SAME GOOD SELECTION

Murray’s see the New Year in stylishly with their January sale offerings. Heading the rare sets are an unusual complete set of 18 Hudden Pretty Girl Series “RASH”, with a very fine set of Taddy Dogs – plus Coronation Series and V. C. Heroes 61-80 from the same firm. The larger issuers are represented by Gallaher Votaries of the Weed and Woodland Trees Series, Ogden Royal Mail, Phillips British Warships and Actresses (C Series) as well as Wills Vanity Fair and Seaside Resorts. Among the classic issues are Smith Battlefields of Great Britain and Famous Explorers, Salmon & Gluckstein Shakespearian Characters and Magical Series, Hill Animal Series and Actresses “HAGG”, Pritchard & Burton Beauties “PAC” and Edwards Ringer & Bigg War Map of the Western Front. Then there are popular sets such as Lambert & Butler Motors 1908, Cope British Admirals, Morris War Pictures, Mitchell Regimental Crests and Collar Badges and Thomson & Porteous V. C. Heroes (also an identical set without the firm’s name).

Trade sets also feature strongly this time. Among the earlier issues are Dunn’s Animals, Irwin’s Tea Characters from Dickens, United Confectionery Wild Animals of the World, Eddison War Portraits and a set of Happy Families by Parkinson including4 golf cards. The post World War II era includes Alma Confectionery Jam,es Bond, Devlin Our Dogs, Nunbetta Motor Cars, Mitcham Mars Adventure, Anglo Gum U. F. O., Chix Popeye, A & B C Love Initials and Strato Gum Airplanes.

Football is very prominent, as befits the middle of the season; the transfer market will be open to move the following sets; Churchman Footballers coloured, Cohen Weenen Football Captains, Pattreiouex Footballers FC1-96, A & B C Star Players, Barratt Famous Footballers New Series, Devlin Famous Footballers A.3, Tip Top (of Malta) European Football Action and also 79 Taddy prominent Footballers. Cricket is fairly quiet, although there are two splendid Liebig Menu Cards, showing Richardson and Stoddart, plus a set of Barratt South African Cricketers. Golf is represented by Churchman (50) and Wills Famous Golfers, and other sports issues of note are Wills Sports of all Nations, Drapkin Sporting Celebrities in Action (including the rare Seagrave & Bobby Jones) and both Ogden Pugilists & Wrestlers in superb condition.

U. S. A. issues are headed by sets of Duke Holidays and Goodwin Dogs, as well as three of the attractive C19th tobacco albums (Kimball and Kinney) and a set of Beatles – A Hard Days Night. Other overseas issues come from Argentina, Australia, Canada, Canary Islands, China, Colombia, Denmark, France, Germany, Holland, Italy, Japan, Malta, New Zealand, Peru, Rhodesia, Switzerland, Uruguay and even Java.

Type cards this time are worth studying, with such gems as C. W. S. Advertisement Card, Wills Indian Series and National Costumes and the customary three Taddy Clowns & Circus Artistes. Other rare cards are Edwards Ringer & Bigg Eastern Manoeuvres (2) and Miners bound for Klondyke a Macdonald Rugby League football team and offerings by Leon de Cuba, Williams and Quinton; there is also a good selection of trade type cards from unusual firms. Silks are represented with a good selection of sets by My Weekly, both the large size Kensitas Flowers, Sinclair backed Regimental Badges and I. T. C. of Canada Rulers and Flags. Brooke Bond offerings come from Rhodesia, as well as two of the similar Musgrave series issues in Ireland. There is the usual group of Liebig sets, plus some by Cibils, some Guinea Golds and Tabs, uncut Turf slides, gum wrappers and sweet cigarette packets. And the 469 lots also include the usual selection of less expensive sets in very good condition, such as some domestic, Irish and overseas series by John Player. As usual, something for everyone.
